Tooth brushing is crucial in Care Homes for the Elderly, as it contributes to oral health, preventing cavities, infections and gum disease. Poor oral hygiene can exacerbate existing health problems in the elderly.
What’s more, healthy teeth promote better nutrition, improving residents’ oral health. Regular brushing can also reduce the risk of respiratory infections, which are common among the elderly.
In addition, good oral hygiene can contribute to a better quality of life by fostering residents’ self-confidence and psychological well-being. It is important to train nursing staff in proper oral hygiene to ensure appropriate care. Educational programs on the importance of tooth brushing can raise awareness among residents and their families, encouraging good oral hygiene practices.
In short, brushing teeth in EHPAD is essential to maintain their overall health, well-being and quality of life.
